Missing ariv26s9 ide controller driver?

First time this has happened, my DVD drive normally operates fine. Now, the tray won't open nor will it run a disk if I manually open it and insert a disk. I used the Windows troubleshooting and it stated that I am missing:

    ariv26s9 ide controller driver.

What is that driver for? This is a SATA device.

Why all of a sudden did this occur?

Nothing has been taken apart inside the case. All connections are tight.

Using Windows 7 Ultimate, device is a Samsung 243d/bebe 24x dvdrw sata oem.

I went to the Samsung website hoping an update would fix it but their tool stated that the drive wasn't compatible with their firmware.

In the Windows device properties it says device is working properly but when troubleshooting the device via the 'devices and printers' section it states the error mentioned earlier.

I was suggested to: delete the controller driver and reinstall it.
    IDE/ATAPI controllers.

It's not that I don't trust his advice, I'm just worried if I uninstall that, the problem will still exist and then I'm facing 2 problems.

    Any thoughts?

    Greetings, c0796.

What's the make and model # of your machine? Reason I ask - the IDE uninstall/reinstall is a good idea, but I'd make sure you have the proper chipset drivers available in case Windows doesn't cooperate.

In fact, a chipset driver reinstall might not be a bad idea.

Since you've already got an Everest report ready, may as well attach it per these instructions so we can take a look at your machine.

Everest attached. My concern is needing a disk to reinstall anything, that is not an option at the moment.

I don't have a particular make/model, I picked the parts and had it assembled.

The mobo is an Asus M4A87TD Evo

    Any other info needed?

Have you tried a chipset driver reinstall from the ASUS site that you listed?

I thought of that after you asked, just wanted to make sure that was the next step.

Will do and then update with results.

Well, this is...unexpected. I downloaded/installed chipset driver from Asus. After installing, rebooting, the problem is still the same but when selecting to troubleshoot I now am getting a message that the missing driver is AOL51RYA IDE Controller.

That was the latest chipset driver as well.

    Any other thoughts?

That Everest report is showing nothing useful - I don't use Everest, so I don't know if it's because you generated a 'Quick Report', or what.

You might consider downloading and running Speccy.

When the scan completes, click 'File', 'Save as Text file', name the report, and save to an easily found location, such as your Desktop.

Be advised: the report will display your IP Address and Windows Product Key. You may delete this information if you so wish.

Then attach that file to your next post.

The optical drive's tray should open regardless of missing drivers. Is the drive being recognized in your BIOS setup?

Another quickie: try resetting your BIOS, either by jumper or by pulling the CMOS battery for several minutes and then reinstalling the battery.

    Hi

Have you tried to use the paper-clip technique to manually open the drive to see if it opens? also if you have not already unhook the SATA cable and re-plug it in at both ends mobo and drive, also better still is to use a new SATA cable.

As those driver codes don't seem to link up with anything you can search for and drivers do tend to list on a search of a file name, I would for some reason be suspecting malware as a possible cause, so maybe well worth following this guide HERE and if anything found in the scans start a new thread in our malware forum area and attach the logs as requested.

My apologies all, turns out there was a loose connection after all. I just couldn't see it initially.

I do however appreciate your replies, thanks again.
