I just re-installed XP Home and during setup, it apparently couldn't find 5 dll files. I was given the option to continue setup without these files, which I did. I'd sure like to know how or where I can get these files and download them. I must need them or they wouldn't be there. My disc is a genuine version of XP Home. Please help. thank you

My best guess is that your disc or CD/DVD drive is dirty or damaged. Check over the CD carefully for scratches.

If you have a choice of installing from a CD or DVD drive, put the disc in the CD drive and try, I get higher % of good installs that way.

Do you have access to another PC so that you could copy over all the files from the CD, just to test?

thanks for the files! Now, next question: where do I copy these files to?

First, as you download, place all 5 files in
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache

then you can take each file and copy it to another location.

Eqnclass and licwmi both also are found in C:\WINDOWS\system32

the last three files are also found in C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem

all files but one downloaded ok....egnclass.dll I got a software error message saying couldn't open count file for read at downloadcounts.cgi line 213 3:50 am Sunday January 9. I was instructed to email the webmaster @dlldump.com and give this information. I am waiting for a reply from the webmaster about this particular file. I'l get back to you if there are any problems. Again, thanks

You told me when I download the 5 files to put them in the following directory: Windows\system32\dllcache.....I'm sorry but it doesn't exist as a file or sub-directory of system32. What do I do now? Oh yeah, by the way, I still haven't heard back from the webmaster regarding the eqnclass.dll for download. The other 4 files downloaded without a hitch...no problem.

    Hi

Try unhiding files and system files (My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > "uncheck" Hide protected operating system files) and then look for the dllcache folder.

But also copy and paste those files into the other locations that Plodr mentions, you may need to also click start > run and type regsvr32 xxxxxxxx.dll where xxxxxxx is the dll name and hit enter, so that the system registers the file.

You need to be sure that system files are showing and file extensions are showing for know file types.

To do that, open windows explorer and click on Tools then folder options.
Click on the View tab. The second subsection is titled Hidden files and folders. Put the circle in the 2nd entry, not the first.
Under the second entry, remove the check/tick from the items that start with the word Hide.
Click Apply before you close the box. Reboot just to be sure your changes took.

You should now be able to see what you are looking for.

Later this afternoon, I will upload my copy of eqnclass.dll and throw you a link to grab it.

Put this in your address bar
    Code:
    http://file.walagata.com/w/perk/Assorted/eqnclass.dll
and a download windows should open.
Download it. Then scan it with your security programs.
When it comes up clean, place it into your
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache folder
    and a copy in C:\WINDOWS\system32

when I placed the file in the address bar and hit enter, I got this message: firefox doesn't know how to open this address because the protocol (code) isn't associated with any program. Now what? thanks again!

when I typed Start>Run regsvr32 for all files I got a message box saying "Load library failed- specified module could not be found". I placed all 5 files where they were supposed to go but it didn't work when I tried to make sure the system registered the files. What did I do wrong?

    Hi

Did the files copied to the correct place not work?

At times not all DLLs need re-registering, but try this and copy the full error message down or take a screenshot and crop it to just the error window.

Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 EgnClass.Dll and hit enter (note a space between 2 and E)

I would also pop in your XP CD and then open a CMD (Command prompt) window and to do this click Start > RUN and CMD adn hit enter then type sfc /scannow (also note the space between c and /) and see if that recovers the missing DLLs
