    Hi,

I noticed that my cd and dvd drvies are missing in my computer and windows explorer. I did dowmload a freeware program called IOBit and ran the program. it seems after I did that my dvd and cd drives were not working and then missing altogether - could be a coincidence. I am using a windows XP operating system. I tried to delete the registrys upper and lower and rebooted - no luck. Any help - please

Go to the Device Manager and see if the CD/DVD drive(s) are listed without question marks or exclamation points. If they are, then click Start > Run and type regedit and press Enter. Navigate to these keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer (you might look in Policies\System also)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer (you might look in Policies\System also)
In the right pane, if you see an entry for NoDrives modify the value to 0 (that's a zero). Then restart the PC.
That should do it! Let us know how it goes!

(if the drives have question marks or exclamation points in the Device Manager, right click each drive and select Uninstall and restart the PC)
