Hi everybody, was hoping to ask for some help. A couple of weeks ago my f drive vanished. I torrent a lot and was downloading something and when I got back to my computer it was just gone. I've looked at and tried recommendations from various 'help my (x) drive isn't showing' google searches but nothing has worked and I can't download or view anything from my f drive which has been the default download folder for the past couple years or so. When I try and look for it nothing shows up, like it's just not there. I have no idea if it's a loose cable or the drive failed or what, I think I've checked all the cables but nothing seems amiss so I was hoping someone here could possibly help before I had to take it to the local computer shop. The machine is home built (not by me) so it's not a brand name but I have added a hdd or two as needed when the earlier drive gets full. C drive was included originally, d is the cd/blu ray, e is an external hdd, f (missing) and g I put in. Any help would be appreciated, thanks a bunch.

    Best,
    b

Did you look in disk management see if it is there with the drive letter missing?

2 TBs "about" 2000 GB. 23Gb free out of 2000 means you have a major problem! Close to 99% full!!!

You should have been moving things off C drive long before it became overcrowded.

In fact, the other two drives you see are also severely overcrowded. Drive E is 92% full. Drive G is 94% full.

I wonder how full was the disappearing drive?

I'm sorry that I can't help you with your missing drive :( , but I can help you with your drive space issue, as I helped somebody else here once. Just ask, and I'll give you the idea.

Hi, yes I've tried disk management and it doesn't show any f: drive.

Thanks for that, on my old computer I had my OS on an SSD with the others just for downloading. Been having computer fits every so often, probably because C: is so full. I think there was still some room on f: because it was my most recent install and I don't recall thinking it was time to add another. Even when one drive (probably g:) got completely full, utorrent simply stopped working and I got a message or something about it being full, it didn't just fall off the map like f: drive. How my free space should I aim for? Do you think system restore to like a month or so ago might be worth trying?

I'll ask as there are probably the same movie(s) downloaded twice, but I think I ran CCleaner searching for duplicate files already, maybe I should try again. The problem is, as can be seen, without the f: drive I have no where to transfer any files to. Just trying to save $$ by not going to a computer shop to have them look for it but I really don't want to just get a new drive and forget about f: because of how long it would take to re-download everything I had on it. Even utorrent won't work when I select the old download folder on g: because it says 'Error: former drive not mounted'.

You can compress the contents of a WinXP+ hard drive using Windows Explorer. Open This Computer, right-click the drive you want to compress and click Properties. Then click Compress this drive and OK. If you want to compress a single folder, open the parent folder in Explorer, right-click the folder, then click Properties. Click Advanced and click Compress contents and OK. You can reverse the compression by doing the same thing. If you want to compress removable media, try Googling and downloading WinMount. Does this help?

Is the drive listed in the BIOS?
    If not it's gone...DOA.

IDK, all the big files are MP4's, mkv, etc. so they're already compressed, right?

Yeah, I don't think I see it in BIOS and when I touch the back of one drive it's warm but the other is cold. So cold... :(

Actually, yes, they are, but you could compress folders that don't contain such files. :)
