missing files from windows98 causing problems running certain programmes

I am attempting to fix my father's Windows 98 system- this computer is a Compaq Presario 1232 with 32 MB RAM and a few issues-

*I am not sure if that is enough information on the system- if you need more, please let me know, seeing as this is my first time posting on here!*

Firstoff, after it logs onto Windows, it pops up with a message box saying that it is missing files from the library and certain applications may not run properly- I have no idea what the heck it is talking about, seeing as we haven't deleated anything- can computers just lose files like that?

Another problem that I am encountering is that when trying to run certain games (Fuji Golf being one of them- and my father's favourite) it tells me that it cannot find WEPUTIL.DLL and therefore cannot run the programme- what is this missing file and how might I get it back?

The third and most frustrating problem that I have found is that for some reason the computer refuses suddenly to print from a DOS programme my father uses for data entry- I am unfamiliar with both the programme and with DOS in general, and have no idea what I might do to convince it to print- especially since it worked before.

If any of you have any suggestions for things I might try, I would be very appreciative- the only thing I can think of to correct the missing files issue would be to re-install Windows, something I have never done and am slightly apprehensive about, seeing as this computer has a lot of data on it from work and I don't want to risk losing or damaging said files.

JR, I checked for WEPUTIL.DLL on my W98SE system. It is not there so maybe it relates to Fuji Golf only. Maybe un-installing and re-installing Fuji Golf may fix this problem. You may lose your high scores, etc., with a re-install, however.

Do you have the original W98 CD as running System File Checker (SFC) may help restoring/checking your setup?

DOS programs usually have their own printing setup. Do you have the original diskettes/CD's for that program? Can you backup all existing data in that program to a separate file/folder on your hard drive, or backup to floppy or burn to CD? Bazza
