Missing files or a virus?

Ok, the other day I noticed my vlc player stop working i go to uninstall it and couldn't by add/remove, I had to delete the folder. Progs will dl, but it wouldn't install. That alert noise xp makes was heard. I tried to scan and the only virus prg that would open is spy doctor. It found nothing. I have tried to open some prg, they won't. I have tried installing , they won't. Also I can't get into my windows firewall. I have had some prg start to seem to load than that Error message pops up telling it has to close. So, Could someone please help me . Thanks you.

Also , my computer is runing fine except not being able delete progs by add/remove and I can't install anything and the stuff that will install won't load or when it does a Error message comes up and I have to close . I know I repeated myself some but I hope someone can help me. Am not some wiz at computers. I try to run spyware progs and anti virus progs and it's seem to work up untill the other day ago . I did delete explorer, that won't have anything to do with my computer problems would it? I run Opera and Firefox for browsers.

 

you shouldn't delete internet explorer completly from your system as windows uses it for more than just a web browser and other components rely on it to function properly. If your problems began after removing I.E. I would suggest that this is the cause. I would suggest you reinstall it even if you don't use it for web browsing.

 

Ok, I have a prob. I remember I deleted explorer 7 , cause it said it didn't upgrade or couldn't for some reason. So , I dl explorer 6 and it won't install and before I deleted explorer 7, I tried going online with it and it said it couldn't connect? I can connect with opera or firefox. Thanks

 

regsvr32 Mshtml.dll was loaded but the dllregisterserver entry point was not found, that the error I get after I register the dlls. I know I could just wipe the drive and start over and it should work than, but do I really need to do that?

 

I can't scan cause it says I need exploer 5 or above. I tried to re install explorer and it says I did so and I have 7 . Thanks

 

Just a qestion, How long does the housecall scan take most of te time? it's said 14mins for like close to 14mins? I just want to know cause I tried this scan the other day and I keep getting a server error that my connection was too slow , now today it seems like it wants to work, yet am not sure ? It's at step 2, been threre for awhile. Thanks

 

Shouldn't you be posting in the Malware forum? Sounds like you got ahold of a few nasties. Go into Safe Mode with Networking and see if you can install CCleaner, etc. You need to run some scans first. Install SpywareBlaster (http://majorgeeks.com/SpywareBlaster_d2859.html). Lite application that will most likely prevent further occurences of malware, spyware, etc.

 

Am new here, didn't know where to post. I have tried to get programs to install or load in safe mode already and it doesn't work.

Well, I had to wait 34 mins and then as it was on step 3 , firefox messed up and I had to restart and try it again . It worked and got rid of some viruses but it's still not letting me open or install . Also I was able to install the spyware blaster. How the heck can I install that but I can't install anything else. Sucks, cause I can't open any anti-virus programs , I can open spyware doctor and spy-bot, but no luck on any anti -virus progs.

 

Maybe the windows installer got messed up. This would explain you being unable to install/remove most software (most software uses it). It could indeed be caused by malware.
Try reinstalling it from microsoft (this package, of course, does not require the windows installer)

Well, I have acoulpe . Xoftspy, avg,to name few. I use spybot for spyware along with spy doctor which both open and will run but the virus programs won't. I can't seem to install anything so the user that mentioned the windows installer, which a plug in is needed to install . I can't install much of anything.

Another note . I have a cd with windows xp on it. I was thinking of just reformating. I never done so , I tried and some error message came saying that the version (Xp home)on the disk is older than what is on the computer. How do I delete the version(Xp home) I have so i can reformat? I added the sp2 pack once it was reformated 2 yrs back before. (The comp, it's not my as much as it's my gf's, and it was reformatted by her aunt just to let those know), so just adding the sp2 pack , would that make it newer?
