Missing Icons

I've lost several of my desktop icons (including Recycle bin). When I've clicked properties there is to "Change Icon" button. I've tried to find freeware icon fixes, but haven't had any luck (there's only 3 so it not really worth paying, it's just annoying). Any suggestions.

What if you go to the program you want on your desktop,then rt click and select create shortcut.

What OS version are you using?

But just to prempt a reply of XP... you have a few options.

1. Right Click Desktop > Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop and highlight an icon and click Restore Default.

2. Get Powertoys for XP and install the TweakUI module and once installed goto the repair menu and repair the icons.

3. Goto Kellys Corner as their are many registry fixes for issue like yours, http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks2.htm#cos in the second dropdown box Fixes for XP their is one to restore the Desktop Icons.

I must warn you option 3 can in some instances if you dont exactly know what your doing in the registry make more of a mess that it fixes... so Backups, Image files, Restore Points etc etc are advisable.
