Missing Key

Hey guys

As I said before in my welcome message, I jumped in head first, and started posting about other things instead of what I really needed. I somehow lost the down key on my HP Pavilion Entertainment PC-DV 2000.

I notice about a week ago it was getting loose and I could adjust it and it would be perfect. But one day I opened the top and it was gone. I notice a little black rubber spongy notch in the middle and thought I could glue it down and insert the key. Here's the thing...the little black spongy thing and the key itself have both disappeared.:confused

Now what:cry... I'm sure it's something really simple as I mentioned in my welcome post and I'm too ashamed:-o to ask my "Major Geek" hubby who also belongs to this wonderful forum.

Thanks for any help in advance...I know you guys can help me with this little ole thang. I know because some of the other MAJOR:major problems I see here boggles my mind but you guys get it done:strong.

 

On many (regular) keyboards, the plastic key itself presses down on a rubber boot under the key which has a contact on the inside. The rubber cover acts to protect that key's contacts from dirt and potentially liquid. Because this is a notebook PC, the keys are probably a proprietary size and you may not be able to replace just that key. Especially if you've lost the rubber boot, I'm betting that you're going to have to replace the entire keyboard. You can probably find a replacement keyboard on-line, if you search a bit. In a quick Google search, I found at least one place that appears to sell them...

I've only worked on a limited number of laptops and notebooks, but some can be a bear to get apart. Perhaps someone else who has worked on this particular model before can shed more light on the subject for you. Best of luck.
