I currently have 6,844 music files in D:\Media\Music (all are .mp3's, no .m4a, .oog, or .wma). However, when I "Add folder to library..." in iTunes, it only adds 6731 songs. Doing the same in WinAmp only gets me 6,808 songs. Any ideas why, or how to get them to show correct results?

How are you determining how many files are in that directory? I'm assuming you're not counting each mp3 by hand... Are you getting this information from the properties of your music directory? That almost always shows more files than the number of music files you have. There are hidden files such as thumbs.db (used to maintain pictures while viewing file thumbnails), which count towards the total on the properties dialog.

Perhaps he did a search for *.mp3? That would tell him exactly how many mp3 files he has in the folder.

I guess that would've worked too, but actually I searched for *.* in my music directory, andthen sorted by file type. I then selected only the media files, which gve me that number. Hopefully that number will match up with a search for just .mp3 files....
