It's some sort of a best crypt driver per this site: http://www.runscanner.net/getmd5.aspx?MD5=A6D04663B0E338C165DCF3874FD6F57C&process=bcbus.sys

AVG or one my other anti-malware programs runs a small scan at boot-up, and tells me there a for this file but that it cannot be found at c:\windows\system32\drivers\ , and may be hidden and therefore a trojan a malware problem. i searched my desktop using googledesktop and didn't find it elsewhere either (though i don't trust googledesktop - see my thread on it in the software forum)

anyway, do i need this driver and where could i get one? (i already checked then general drivers links on the sticky, no luck.) - if not, can i remove the reg entry (hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\bcbus)

OK, I've decided to delete the reg entriy or entries pointing to this missing driver. Do I just search for bcbus with reg edit, or is there a better way to deal with something like this?

just to update, in case anyone has the same problem and comes across this thread: nothing bad has happened so far after i manually removed all bcbus references from the registry.

OneEdge.... Sorry no-one replied to your question, at times it maybe one of those issues that no-one knows the fix, but many thanks for continuing and posting what you did to resolve this problem, many do not update, so again many thanks.

Just one thought I have, do you use Bestcrypt from Jetico ( which is file/folder encryption )? if so does it still work after deleting that reg entry?

Maybe you installed it and removed it as it didnt serve purpose, but the uninstaller didnt remove its driver, happens at times.

    Plus which OS you using?

I don't knowingly use Jetico, but I do have a program installed called Folder Lock, which uses something to lock files/folders, so I'll have to check if it still works.

    OS is Win XP/SP2.

Folder Lock still works fine. There are still a few bcbus references in my registry that either came back after the deletions, or that I couldn't delete the first time around.

Several years ago I tried to use a USB headset with volume control on this computer but it wouldn't recognize the device, even though the headset worked on all other computers I tried it on. Consequently I imported a bunch of drivers from another win XP machine, so maybe bcbus is a remnant from that attempt. I never got the headset to work properly though; had to disconnect the volume control/USB part and just use it through the serial connections.
