missing "run" command box

    when i click on the start menu on winxp pro, the run box is missing.the pc is on a network and has recently been upgraded from nt to xp pro.anyone know how i can get the run box back? i use it very often. thanks

    does it appear if you press the Windows key and R?

    no it says "action cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer".i guess theres no way around that because im not the administrator.

    Right-click the Start Menu choose Properties. On the Start Menu tab, click Customize. On the Advanced tab, under Start menu items, make sure Run command is checked.

    If that doesn't work, go Start --> Run --> "gpedit.msc". Browse to User Settings\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar. Ensure that the policy Remove Run from Start Menu is Not Configured or Disabled. Note that you must be an Administrator to change this setting, and if your PC is a member of a domain you may not be able to change it at all.

    Edit: Oops. It occurs to me that you can't do the above.... :eek: Try Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Group Policy or Local Group Policy.

    Yeah, this is the Group Policy setting. Contact your system administrator.
