XP Pro, SP3, current updates, Comodo, A^2, Lenovo T60p Dual CPU - 2.1 ghz, 15.6" screen, 3 Gb computer memory, 3 cent operator memory

Subsequent to a major disaster I have no task manager (if I rt click on the taskbar "task manager" is grayed out.)

When I click on "taskmgr.exe" in windows/system32, I get an error saying "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator." In this case, the administrator was some "clever" code from "out there."

After finally getting "Administrative Tools" working again I checked the application event viewer but there was nothing about task manager. And I really have no clue where to look for what could turn the task manager off.

Can anyone point me to what will reactivate this tiny part of my disaster?

I had this same exact problem (when I was using Windows XP) and was able to resolve it by downloading and running the REG fix at the Ramesh Srinivasan windowsxp.mvps.org site using Method 2 at the following website URL:

Error Message: "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator"
    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Taskmanager_error.htm

Important Side Note: If this restriction was enabled in your system without you doing anything or without your knowledge, then it's highly likely that a Virus has blocked the usage of Task Manager in your system by enabling the DisableTaskMgr policy via the registry. If this is the case; most definitely you should run a full scan of your entire computer using your antivirus.

    Good Luck…

Oh happy day! It's always easy when you know how. Thanks much.

I am posting a separate message about my major disaster with a thing called System Fix. The missing task manager is definitely a tiny, tiny, tiny part of a virus attack. I forgot to get a signature read of it before I deleted the offending exe's working from the backup drive. I've used every bit of computing knowledge I've picked up in 40 years, getting things working again.
