Trying to help a friend running Win 8.1.

Apparently he has lost the Title Bar for all applications. In other words, for example, if he opens a document in OpenOffice Writer... the name of the file does not appear above the window in the upper left-hand side of the screen. This happens in all applications... notepad, excel, adobe, etc. The file name never appears. Files open with the appropriate software, but one has no idea of the file name as you are working with it.

He doesn't have any other issue with his PC. Any suggestions?

    Try.....
Start -> Settings -> Apps -> Pick one (Mail and Calendar for instance) -> Click the "Advanced options" link -> Click the "Reset" button.
See if that has any impact on the problem.

Thanks. I'll try that next week when I next see my friend. However, I noticed on my Win 10 system I don't have that option. I choose OpenOffice Writer in Start -> Settings -> Apps -> Pick one (Mail and Calendar for instance) -> Click the "Advanced options" link ->... and only have the option of Modify or Uninstall. Maybe it's different in Win 8.1.

I don't use Win8.1, so maybe someone who does will give you a better reply.
