Hi. I have been looking for a driver for this Presario F730us Laptop for about 3 weeks now. It originally had Vista installed but someone changed it over to XP Pro before I purchased it. I have been to the Compaq site and several others to no avail. Below is my Belarc Advisor Current Profile Report. I hope you can steer me to the right driver so I can get my graphics flowing smoothly when viewing a web page.

    Hi

Looking that the Vista drivers Compaq have for your model, the graphics driver should the the GeForce Go 6100 and they are HERE for XP

Did you also install the chipset driver for your PC, do check Device Manager for any yellow ! marks and tell us what they are, if one is SMbus, ethernet/lan then you will need to install the Chipset driver HERE first then reboot and install the Graphics second.

    Hi

Try again, but dont use or have running 7-zip if you have that software installed as the Nvidia drivers are standalone exe files that uncompact themselves and some unzip/compression utilities cause issues with them.

Thanks! I just tried a search on my hard drive for 7-zip and nothing came up for it, so I really don't know what to do here next.

    Hi

Did you download it via Firefox, Opera, Chrome etc or via IE, if not IE then download via IE and see if that works, alternative is to open the downloaded file with a trial of WinRAR and extract it then open the extracted folder and run the setup file.

Grrr. Just re downloaded it with Internet explorer and opened with winrar.
set up gave me a message "The Nvidia setup could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
    Thx

    Hi

Could you do me a favour and run the below and attach the log as the main system specs of your PC HERE list you have a GeForce Go 6100, which that is the driver for.

Also if you have any yellow ! marks in device manager please do mention what they are?

    Hi

Very strange as the PC specs at Compaq list one graphic card and the Everest log another in a nVidia C51 which generally gomes out as the 430 chipset and 6150LE graphic card and the driver is HERE for that, install this one and see how you go.

Yes thanks the messages and the log does help, narrow things down.

Hi Halo. Well I had high hopes on this one. But after downloading it and running it I still have the yellow question mark that was mentioned previously! This is getting discouraging now. The thing about it is that the last time I had to reformat this comp I found all the drivers with no problems. Naturally when the comp froze up all info I had saved on it was lost as well. I do remember using one driver from Nvidea Quatro last time if that helps any!!
    Thanks
    Katt

Hi Katt, I did too :(

Reading a bit more on downgrading from Vista to XP on that or close model PCs from Compaq/HP it seems that the normal drivers dont always work and some from other models do, so try this

Chipset and reboot after installing HERE

then install the VGA driver from HERE and reboot after install (these are older drivers but may be more compatible to the 61xx series chips..... well I hope).

OMG! Well I downloaded and installed in the order you said. The first one went through just fine. The second one caused a blue screen with a full page of error writing. I tried to reboot but the same blue page came up again. Tried to boot up in safe mode and the comp just hung at the file loading on safe mode. So now I have a fresh brand new copy of windows xp installed. By the time you read this I should have SP2 installed into this thing. I have included thre recent up to date Txt report for you to browse through.
This would be comical if I didn't depend on this computer so much for work!!
    Thanks

Hi again Halo. Ok, system re formatted and sp2 installed. New ballgame here now. Everest report included below. I have no sound and the only yellow question mark I now have is Ethernet Network Controller.
Hopefully these two don't prove to be such a pain! Thanks in Advance.

    Hi

Well that last install seems to have gone well as the VGA installed ok as I can see it listed in the Everest log as the GeForce Go 6100, so no idea why it didnt load earlier, one of the reasons I tend at times to shy away from downgrades and advice on them as drivers can be a pain in the butt to get 100% without some trial and error.

Did you install the Nvidia Chipset driver as the Ethernet Controller is supposed to be included in that driver pack?

This is a LAN driver for the Integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN HERE (if IE doesnt download this from FTP, use Firefox)

Hi Halo. Well all is well with this laptop now. Running smooth with no question marks in the device manager. Still don't know why I lost it before but oh well. The only problem I see now is that when the comp goes into screensaver mode, i click the screen and it comes back looking like an old tv station with just the snow and horizontal lines running across it. Hard to describe but thats the best I can! You have been a big help and I now have all of the drivers copied onto a usb stick and put up in case I need them again. Have a great day.

    Hi Katt

Thanks for the update and glad all is ok now, the screensaver thing is weird, only quick thought is that the laptop is not coming out of the save mode, correctly, try a different screensaver to test.

    Have a great day yourself

Thanks Halo, I tried that and it didn't make any difference. I'm not that concerned about it though. I searched for a driver for my webcam last night and this morning and nothing could be found that works.
It's a Creative Labs VF0040 was working before the previous reformat. Creative labs doesn't even have it on their site! Tried searching all the other sites as well. All I get is an inrecognizable device notification in the tool bar after running the software set up. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Katt

You wouldnt have a typo on that model number would you as a VF0400 is available but not a VF0040?

Weirdly could you post a pic of it? the shape and design may spark my brain into knowing what model and driver it is?

But a little digging on this may have a driver for you HERE (2nd driver down and not the x64 XP one, their looks like some software also available too lower down the list)
