    Good Morning All,
I just joined, hope you can help!
Major Geeks.com is a fantastic site to get and download Free Programs and others. However (As in my case), if your on a slow Dialup connection, and you download a 5 mb program, and for whatever reason you lose the connection, then alhough the Download Manager I use as the Resume capability,I'm not able to continue the download from where it stopped! For Instance Star Downloader would show a 30 second message indicating.....COULD,NT CONNECT TO HOST.this despite the fact that I am connected to Major Geeks.com! This morning I was downloading the latest Picasa program and, 3.58 mb of the required 4.7 mb had been done, when it happened again! This is very frustrating, and a great time waster! The thing is,when I download something from Snapfiles.com, I never experience this problem! What gives? Can some one help with this? Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi

to stop leaching of bandwidth from the majorgeeks download servers by other sites, some download managers just dont like resuming, I would suggest using this one as iirc it does resume ok Download Express ( I have chosen this one to try and aid you in downloading it ok as its only 631 Kb in size )

    Halo,Thanks for trying to help.
I've had Download Express for a couple of years, and in th last few months i've added Star Downloader and Free Download Manager to my download arsenal, and they all Resume whenever I download Programs from other free sites like Snapfiles.com etc...I would have thought the Moderator of this Forum, would have jumped in to guide me!
    What does iirc stand for?Thanks.

IIRC stands for If I Remember Correctly.

Halo IS a moderator. I've just tested the picaso download with FDM and have managed to stop and start it successfully several times.

Once you have chosen a mirror and the MG site redirects to the download page, copy the target of the link that says Click Here If It Doesn't and paste it into FDM.

See if this works for you.

I also re-tested Download Express as I had not used it since migrating from DUN to Broadband, and it works OK with the MG download servers, I paused the download, stopped the download and closed the program for later recovery of download, disconnected my net connection to simulate a disconnection and resumed with no issues my end.

Hope one of the above posted by Matt ( who also is Moderator ) and myself work.

They time out after time to protect us from websites who would link to us and steal our bandwidth and slow our servers down. If you choose one of the overseas mirrors, like PlanetMirror, you should be able to resume as they are not protected.
