I have this HD mkv video that I am trying to convert so I can watch it on my iPod.

I have tried several MKV converters, but each one ether just shuts down, or comes up with some error when I try to convert.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the file, I have watched it several times and even just yesterday. So I have no idea what the problem could be. :cry

Some .mkv file are over compressed in my opinion. I have to have several media players just for various .mkv files. This would cause a problem with conversion too. You may want to convert it to an .avi and then to the format you need. Or, try a different converter.
You never mentioned what converter you are using and what format you are trying to produce. That could help us determine a better solution.

I have used 4Videosoft MKV Video Converter and AVS Video Converter.

I was thinking the same thing by trying to convert it to avi but got the same result. FWI ;)

My suggestion is to go HERE.

Although you believe the .mkv file is not broken because your media player can handle it, it may technically be broken so be sure to read THIS

Lastly, try different converters found HERE

They are the #1 site for video and audio tools and support. (Like the MajorGeeks of video/audio tools) and their forums are helpful.

That being said, I strongly suggest a MajorGeeks search first. I trust this site with my computer's life so go HERE first.

Premium ipod/iphone movie converters have giveaways all the time so search for some of those. Make sure you have WOT add-on installed and start monitoring giveaway sites like tipradar. Or just download a trial version of a premium converter and see if that works.

Let us know what works. It may help some others out in the future!

Well after trying a million things, I finely got 4Videosoft MKV Video Converter to convert it to "AVI HD" format, So I should be able to convert it to m4v from that.:clap

But you say there are websites that you can get software free? I like free;)

    Nope. :(

Even with the file now being avi format, I still get the same error when I try to convert with AVS Video Converter 8.0

It must be some problem with trying to convert a HD video to a smaller screen size and video size. But that is still just a guess.....
