i have these mkv videos that use the divx 5.2 codec which vlc doesn't support i only got it working with 5.1 codec videos the 5.2 videos are really glitchy, they will freeze at one moment in the videos and the picture won't resume after about a second this happens throughout the video and is very bad is there a way to play them flawlessly or is there a way to comvert them mack to divx 5.1 codec videos

I have used the CCCP project with the built in media player with no problems. They do not recommend having VLC installed though.

okay how do i convert it to avi so i can burn them to cd or just store them and easily play them with vlc instead of downloading all of these extra packs and codecs

i already have vlc installed but i am using ubuntu so what does that mean

Okay, did not know you were using Ubuntu. I am afraid I cannot help you, sorry. Maybe somebody here knows how to convert to AVI from MKV in Ubuntu.

i can either do it under wine or just hop on a windows computer so i don't think using ubuntu would matter now just thought you might have known what to do under linux but i dont mind using a windows machine to do all of this on

    Hello,
I am not too familiar with conversions, I only know that CCCP did the job for me as far as playing MKV's. I did find this though. Maybe it will help. If not there are probably other free converters out there that may work. Other people on this board might know of a better converter.

VLC Player plays .mkv files flawlessly for me on Windows 7 .
I dont know if that helps you any, but I thought I'd just toss it out there.
