Hello, I just bought a brand new Asus G2 Laptop which has a Mobility X1700 512 MB dedicated graphics card. The first game I installed on it was Half-Life 2 and when I started playing it, it kept freezing pretty much immediately after starting game play. Sounded like an overheating issue to me at first. But I thought I'd try to update/reinstall the drivers to fix it. I uninstall the ATI drivers and catalyst software, attempt to re-install with the provided software disc I got with the laptop, then about half-way through the driver installation, it prompts me for a "Disk:1." So I try it with every software disc my laptop came with and it wouldn't take it. I try to download the standard ATI catalyst software off their site (which there are no X1700 drivers on their site BTW, good stuff, eh?), and it also gives me an error half-way through installation saying "there is no compatible hardware" or something to that effect. I figured that'd happen since this is a mobility Radeon and not a standard desktop Radeon. I system restored it back to before I uninstalled the ATI drivers and that seemed to re-install the display drivers, but I cant open up the Catalyst Control Center. It tries to install the CCC when I try to open it up and does a routine asking for some random system file. So I'm trying to download the VGA drivers off of Asus's site which are 140 MBs and capped at 25 kb/s (wtf?!) as I type this. So, My question:

Is there anywhere else I can get drivers for this card besides Asus's support site?! I can't seem to find any for it ANYWHERE!

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!!

As my original post stated, there are no X1700 drivers on that page. Thanks though for replying!

Sorry these guys can't read, I just also purchased the G2P (and was skeptical over getting the G2P over the G1 since I'm a nVidia fan... a las the Go 7700 isn't supported by nVidia at this time either IMO rolleyes )

Anyways I found a 'decent' version of the catalyst by going to this link
    http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/index.html
It has slow load times, but at least it loads unlike the chopped versions I've tried from teh ATI.AMD site (tried to install different versions, but the CCC wouldn't load without user access control changes... wtf eh?)

I found the semi-nice solution here (this is where I got the ATI link)

Any other questions feel free to email me, I've been having some other problems, like this which inspired me to reinstall the drivers... and the games keep freezing up randomly...

I too have a G2P, but don't suffer any ill effects of the standard driver. I was just looking for an updated driver to squeeze a few more FPS out of this beast. I am, however, suffering from a virus because a retarded korean decided it was a good idea to look at asian sites via IE6... i want to kill him...
