Is it possible that my ASUS A8N SLI has become defunct with the green power light showing. Computer failed after being sat on my bedroom floor for a couple of months, fans spin for a split second. Replaced PSU/CPU/Memory/Graphics Card/Battery with the same result. Incidentally no HD's/Roms connected when powering up. No fluff bunnies/weeping capacitors.

Sounds like it's fried. How come you've replaced all but the MoBo!?

Mobo purchased SH and has not had much use ( backup rig for problem solving) so with such limited use I thought that between CPU & Mobo the breakdown would be more likely the processor as that was in a previous rig so I bought another CPU which arived this morning (secondhand again) as its a 939 socket, of course there is always the possibility that this one is faulty but I wont know that until I strip my main Rig down and put that CPU in it as that mobo also an Asus A8N 939 SLI. But as I originally said the Power Green light is on when trying to fire up. :confused

Well, to answer your question from my POV, I have come across many MB's (Asus inc) that show a green light, or signs of power, but that have failed. :(

Just because you have no leaking capacitors means nothing they could still have gone high ESR, the use of an ESR meter will tell you the 'goodness' of an electrolytic type capacitor.

Well its lookoing toward a defunct mobo and thats a help BrettJamesLive knowing that the Green Power light will still function even though the rest of mobo somewhere is faulting. I will install recently bought CPU in this rig tomorrow just to confirm its functioning as advertised. Shall let you know the outcome,

I have now installed the bought CPU and it fired up in my working Rig so it appears that the Mobo has had it. I also tested the CPU that was in situ in the non working computer and that ran as well in the working Rig. Thanx to those that responded. ;)

The green light just means the PSU is putting out the required +5Vsb standby voltage (confirmed on page 1-2 of your manual). It does not mean the motherboard is good. In most cases, it is just a warning to unplug before pulling RAM or doing other maintenance.

Thanks for that info Digerati as that was what was confusing me seeing the 'Power' light on made me think that all was OK with the Mobo and it was the CPU at fault.

Hi again.. before buying another mobo I had a look around my spares and found an 'ASUS A8N-SLI PREMIUM' so installed a CPU and bench ran and it fired up NP. So I then connected all the necessary and fired it up and thats when the penny dropped and why it was boxed and buried NO GRAPHICS. Nothing wrong with the PCI Express Card, that I do know, computer fully boots but no grahics. Having looked on ASUS site I was wondering if some how it has been switched to dual cards, there is no physical switch on the board to implement this, it can be done in the Bios or Windows. Now I know I had not used any of these. Question is can the graphics implementation in the board become inoperative/broke ??? Dont seem to be having much luck lately with Mobo's lol.

Are you asking, can on-board graphics fail? Sure. Any part on a motherboard can fail. You might reset the BIOS and try again to make sure it was not disabled before tossing it in the trash bin, however.

I tried resetting the Bios via the CMOS Jumper Setting and it made no difference so it appears that the onboard graphics have failed as you suggested Digerati. :(

It was worth a shot, and cost nothing but a little time.
