Mobo Noise

I recently decided to reinstall the drivers for my Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo / nForce 2, thinking I may have had a problem. Well now it is making a very high-pitched noise. The noise seems to lessen/stop when I play audio, even with the speakers off. Anyone know why?

is the noise coming from the speakers or from the hardware itself? the mobo also has a speaker which could be making that noise. ive alse heard that a video card can make a kind of squealing noise if the power plug (if applicable) isnt plugged into it.

 

No, it is from a piece of hardware, thought not a hardware-mounted speaker. Not a fan either. This exact setup, with no hardware adjustments at all, made no noises prior to the installation of these drivers.

 

I hate to double-post, but could find no way to edit this onto my last post. I opened my case, and listened very closely. The noise seems to alternate between a high-pitch noise and a lower vibration noise, though both are quite faint. It almost sounds like an alarm in a game (e.g. Goldeneye) though very very faint and weak.

 

the only thing i can think of is try to pinpoint exactly which piece of hardware the noise is coming from. the only thing i could think ciould make a noise like that is something that moves so maybe a disk drive or hdd?

 

It just sounds like it is coming from the general area around the CPU, though not necessarily from the CPU itself.
In a strange twist: then noise also stops when I plug my USB drive in.
