    My equipment:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ w/ stock heatsink w/ a 60mm case fan and adapter
    Shuttle AN35N Ultra nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset
Corsair DDR400 512MB (2 in DIMM slots 2,3 for dual channel)
Maxtor 200GB ATA (mobo doesn't have SATA :cry )
    Coolmax 500W PSU w/ 120mm exhaust fan
Two case fans 1 60mm intake on back and 1 120mm on top exhaust

I know the mobo isnt the greatest but the manual clearly states that an Athlon 3000+ will run with a 200Mhz FSB, as long as the RAM will run it.
My problem is that this machine will not let me run the FSB at 200Mhz. If i set it to 200, change the multiplier to x10, and then save the changes to CMOS, i get nothing. No display, just a black, blank screen. The HDD light flashes a few times and then stays solid. I have to use the mobo jumper to wipe my bios back to default. The max speed i can set the FSB is 166Mhz.
The following is a list of my Bios settings pertaining to this, options in () are my current settings.

    Advanced Chipset Features
    System Performance-(optimal),aggressive,turbo,expert
    FSB Freq-100Mhz~250Mhz (166Mhz)
    CPU interface-(optimal),aggressive
    Memory freq-(by spd),50%~200%,auto
    Resulting freq-200Mhz
    Memory timing-(optimal),aggressive,turbo,expert
    t(ras)-8
    t(rcd)-3
    t(rp)-3
    cas lat-2.5
    FSB spread spectrum-(off),0.5%,1%
    AGP spread spectrum-(off),0.5%
    AGP aperature-128M
    AGP 8x-enabled
    AGP fast writes-enabled
    System bios cacheable-disable
    VRAM cacheable-disable
    C1 disconnect-auto

My CPU options are set to auto, it sets the multiplier at x13.
According to WCPUID, my resulting cpu freq is 2171Mhz, system clock is 167Mhz, and my bus is 334Mhz. I would really appreciate any help on this. I am NOT trying to OC this system, i just want it to run at the speed it should.

Ok, i found out that the cpu multiplier on Athlon XP chips is locked. Mine is locked at x13, so if i crank up the bus speed to 200Mhz, my cpu is OC'ed to approx. 2.6Ghz!! If i unlock the multiplier, turn it down to x11 and raise the bus speed to 200Mhz, i should get my advertised bus speed and not have my cpu toast itself right?

why are you so set on messing with the multipliers? just bump up the FSB to what it should be at and seeing as that is its standard speed it should have absolutely no problems running at that speed. although, looking online i cant find the 3000+ for sale but the 3200+ runs only at 2ghz. so...im thinking that by trying to get the FSB to run at 200mhz then you are actually overclocking. dont go by the FSB, go by the overall clock speed your CPU is rated.

I am not 'set on messing with the multipliers'. Did you read the first post? I am NOT interested in OC'ing otherwise I would have posted this in the Overclocking forum. The cpu, mobo, and RAM are rated to run the bus at 200Mhz, but my multiplier is locked. It would seem the only way to run the bus at its advertised speed would be to unlock the multiplier and tune it down so that i could raise the bus speed. If my bus speed is 200 and my multiplier is locked at x13, that means i would be trying to run a 2.2Ghz chip at 2.6Ghz. Not gonna happen. But if i can lower the multiplier to x11, 200Mhz x11 equals 2.2Ghz w/ a 200Mhz FSB. I just want to know if anyone knows if this will work. It sounds good, but i dont want to go to all the trouble of unlocking the multiplier for this chip if it isnt going to work.

whats the stock speed for the CPU? not the FSB, the clock speed

ah, nvm i see that you're trying to get it to run at 2.2 so ill assume thats the stock speed...

Well, since its running at 2.171, why now just bump the FSB up 1mhz and call it good? a few mhz off is normal (like +-5, 29 is a bit over though). yea its technically "overclocking" but 1mhz FSB increase isnt gonna hurt anything. other than that, i dunno what to tell ya

Yes the speed of the cpu is ~2.2Ghz. That is not the problem. The problem is my system bus runs at 166, and my PC3200 Ram is running at 333. It should be 200 and 400, but i cant seem to figure out why it wont run at that speed. I have attatched a screenie from WCPUID to show what my realtime speeds are. I did find out that the Athlon multipliers are locked going up, but not down. I tried to set it to x11 and the bus at 200Mhz, but the machine froze up during boot up, again. I had to reset the bios settings with the jumper, again. It just refuses to run at speed.

ooooooooooo i gotcha....yea you may have to mess with the memory dividers which i know nothing about since im an intel guy.

just s suggestion here: try to lower the multiplier but keep the FSB the same and see how the final clock speed turns out. if it drops then you know that the multiplier is actually changing. then, work your way up to 200 FSB (if you can even do that)

or just enable OC options in the BIOS and manually set the memory to 400mhz (this may actually cause the memory to run much faster than 400mhz so maybe try setting it at 333mhz, with my experiences ive found that it usually ends up about pc3100 speeds while the 400mhz ends up about pc4100)

Tried your idea about the multiplier, and apparently i can change the multiplier in the bios all i want, but it always boots up at x13. Im gonna try unlocking the multipliers and see what it gets me, and hey if i screw up i can always fall back on my Athlon XP 2800. Ive had that up to 2Ghz. I just need to upgrade my system i know, but i dont have the funds at the moment. Besides, i paid for a 200Mhz bus and goddamn it i want it. Peace, see you on the other side.

Yes the MOBO supports 400fsb but thats Dependant on you purchasing the appropriate hardware to achieve this!

Here's the Deal (keeping in mind that you don't want to OC)
You should have bought a CPU that runs at 400fsb to match your memory speed

The Best Performance on a NF2 mobo is where the CPU & Memory runs at 1:1 ratio
Using a divider on NF2 will result in a decrease in system performance

You might be able to run at 11x200, if the lower Multipliers are unlocked but you might & will have to increase the Vcore/cpu Voltage
Remember your CPU is rated at 166/333Fsb anything you get higher is Gravey :D

Just to see if your multiplier is downward unlocked try to boot at 11x166 if you can boot & if your Multiplier stays at 11 then increase your FSB by maybe 5 Mhz at a time then reboot
Once you get to point where you get no Booty "LOL" this is where you need more V Core volts (increase in small amounts)

By the way, This is OC Territory
Changing the Multiplier even though it's lower, your rasing the FSB! Rasing FSB = OCing ;)
Also note! Upping the CPU voltage & FSB will generate more Heat, Better CPU/System cooling might be in order.
Too much Voltage will Kill your CPU :major
You should keep your Max Load CPU Temp no higher than 50c, any higher will shorten CPU life

Dont forget to test your system for Stabilty, run Prime 95 for 8 hrs with no errors & some 3Dmarks you'll be good to GO

Hmm, i thought this chip did run a 200mhz fsb. i guess not. btw, it has the translucent top layer on it, so no unlocking for me. oh well, like i said before, ill suck it up till i upgrade in like 2 yr.
