Greetings Geeks. Currently using a HP Pavilion Laptop w/ Win XP Home Edit. Sometimes use dial up internal modem(Conexant 56K ACLink Modem) to connect via AOL. Now and again the modem "Disappears". It does not show in the Device Manager and we're no longer able to connect. It happens randomly, or so it appears. May or may not be there after restart. I go to "Add Hardware", point out the Modem, and all is well again for a day or so. Any thoughts??? Help.

Thinking worst case ,,,loose connection on modem card,,,and system sometime can not see the modem to keep in system as active resource

Is there any software settings(start up?) that would cause the modem to "disappear"from the device manager?
