Hi, when i log onto the internet, after a few minute i am disconnected....i have looked into modem properties and dialup connection, but not really sure what i'm looking for
i have Windows XP Pro build 2600 with SP1
Smartlink 56k modem (cant get Broadband where i live) :(

this problem only occurs with windows xp...when i boot up with windows ME, the connection is fine

Sounds like your modem/cord/phone line is good if it works in Me.

A couple of things you can try:

Are you using Outlook Express? If so, open OE (in XP) and go to Tools > Options > Connection tab. Make sure the 'Hang up after sending and receiving' option is NOT checked.

Make sure you have call waiting disabled (*70)

You may need to update your modem driver in XP. Here's a step-by-step procedure for doing that http://www.grasshoppernet.com/technicalsupport/winxp/mod_update.html and here's a good site for updated drivers http://www.driverguide.com You'll have to create an account there but it's free.
