Modem Help

Hi everyone.
I'm having a little problem over here with a modem.
I unistalled a modem on a computer using the properties tab.
I now want to reinstall the modem but when I go to the control panel-modems, the modem is not listed.
In order to reinstall the modem, will I need the recovery disk?
The computer is picking up the modem but the message I get is that the modem is not installed.

Hey thanks for the tip.
Yeah, I had tried that and the computer when rebooted did "see" the modem but still I couldn't get it to work.
I went to contral panel add new hardware and from there reinstalled the modem
but then when I went to the device manager, I got the NTKERN.VDX code 2 error message.
something about the driver not being able to load?
I tried to download the latest drivers and still nothing.
any ideas?

 

What type of modem is it and what os are you using ??

 

The modem is an HSP56 Micromodem on a ME os.

I'm not sure what operating system you're using, but you should have an Add option at the bottom. This is how you would reinstall a modem. It will guide you through the add modem wizard, which you may have to choose from a list if you don't have the source disk. Generic 56k modem works fine.

If you have any trouble with choosing this type of modem, you can try using some initialization strings, which can also speed up your modem by a small margin. Good luck, and let us know if you need further assistance!

 

Yeah I saw Lugztaz's post and I tried that and nothing happened.

Well, the computer does read that the modem is installed.

The problem is with the drivers I think.

I get an error message (if you can call it that) telling me the device is already installed but it has a problem. At the device manager, it reads the modem as installed but NTKERN.VDX device loader could not load the device?

Thanks for taking a look at my thread.

When I go to the modem wizard, I get or see no button for "Add".

The OS is WINME.

 

You have opened the case and have taken the modem out.
rebooted.
reinstalled the modem.
rebooted.
plug and play should have picked up the new modem.
by then you should have gotten an option of using the modem disc or chosing from the list.( drivers )
is the modem in the list ??
did you try to troubleshoot the modem ??
actually I am kind of lost here

Yep, I opened the case and took the modem out.
I rebooted and shut off.
I installed the modem again and rebooted.
Plug and play did not pick up modem.

Yeah, I've trouble shot the modem and the computer reads or "sees" that the modem is there.
The problem I think is with the drivers.

Last night from the properties, I uninstalled/removed the modem.
I then rebooted thinking the the computer would pick up a new hard ware.
Nothing happened.
I have then tried to reinstall the modem but when I go under modems, the modem in this computer in not in listed in the modem wizard. I am now having a problem with this NTKERN.VDX and drivers.

 

Check in your Add/Remove Programs. See if there is any program for the modem there. You may have to remove the progam for it as well.

 

After researching this over night I have found that you have a conflict with another program.
It has to do with vidio editing?
Do you have such a program installed ?
And another question.
Is this a dell ???

 

This isn't my computer but I do think they had some sort of video editing program on the computer.

I tried to look for it but couldn't fint it.
