    Ok, here is what I am doing and looking for.
    First, I am hearing impaired and must use relay to communicate with hearing people over the phone. I mainly use internet relay now for this but my mother has a TDD so she can just call me and we "talk" without the middle person of a relay operator. I would like to do away with our landline so I am looking into ways of being able to still communicate directly with my mother without using a relay operator. I have come across a program called MyTTY 3.0 here are the requirements for that for my PC
    Minimum System Requirements:

    * Windows 98SE
    * 32 MB memory
    * TAPI-compliant voice modem
    * Pentium processor or equivalent
    * CD-ROM drive

    Now what I want to do is find out what type of modem I have on my computer so I know if my computer is compatible or not. I guess I would also need to know how to find out what kind of processor I have as well.

    Here is what I know I have:
    Windows xp home
    512mb
    CD-rom drive

    Also, if there is anyone on this forum who has anything that they use on their computer and still able to communicate directly with a TTY/TDD without going thru relay I would very much appreciate any information anyone has. Just looking into things to try and save us money as the only reason we have a landline anymore is so my mom can still call me and talk to me on my TDD without going thru a relay service as from the get go she has always hated going thru a relay service to talk to me so that is why she went out and bought a TDD.

    Thank you so much and sorry for being so long winded in this post just feel that the more you know about what I want that you can better assist me.

    Thanks,
    shewolf :)

    you can figure out what you need to know about your system in either system information or device manager. looking around in either one of these will get you the info.

    for system information: start - programs - accessories - system tools
    for device manager: right click my computer - properties - hardware tab

    i dont know anything about the relay thing though.

    Ok here is what I found out and now I need to know compatibility based on the minimum requirements that the MyTTY 3.0 states.

    Again Minimum System Requirements for the MyTTY3.0 is:

    * Windows 98SE
    * 32 MB memory
    * TAPI-compliant voice modem
    * Pentium processor or equivalent
    * CD-ROM drive

    My computer information now is as follows:
    WinXP home edition sp3
    512MB
    In both System and Hardware information the modem on my computer says it is a 56kps internal modem.
    In system information processor says: x86 family 6 Model 8 stepping 1 AMD ~1731 Mhz
    In Hardware information processor says: Amd anthlon XP 2100 +
    CD-rom drive

    Other than the modem which im not 100% sure on, you should be ok. your computer surpasses the minimum requirements to run the program.

    I'm not sure about the modem being TAPI-compliant. Someone else will probably come by with more information on that.

    As stated you PC will handle it fine as it (and any modern PC) far surpasses the min specs.
    As for the TAPI I don't know alot about it either, never needed to before so I took this oppurtunity to find out a little for you.

    I found this page which will give you some info and some tips to find out if your modem supports it.

    http://www.kengolf.com/en/voice-modem.htm

    I am guessing your modem came preinstalled and in most cases these are generic brands which may be hard for you to find make, model names etc for. So finding specs for it online will likely be a pain. You can however open your case and note down anything that looks like a model or serial number and google for it. But try the tips in the link above first.

    Failing all that data/fax/voice modems are pretty cheap these days and if you click on the first link to Ebay in the page I linked above for the USB external modem you'll see it for $15 dollars.

    Thank you to all that have replied and for the information. I am still researching the program myTTY 3.0 and before spending $60 on it want to be sure that it is going to work for me and that it is what I want/need.

    I did check out the link thank you xmeister for providing it and will do some more searching on the TAPI-compliant voice modem just basically wanted a start here first to find out about my current modem before going indepth search of TAPI. But yes, my modem came preinstalled it is an eMachine w2785. I think I may just get a new modem I don't know yet but just gotta check into it all..

    Thanks again for all the help and pointing me in the right direction.

    Have a great day and the people on MG forum are wonderful for their help and time!!! :dancer
