    Chums

I recycled my old PC to my brother in law - now it's not working, and yrs truly has to fix it.

The problem which presented was that he couldn't connect to the Internet any more. When the dialog came up to connect to the Internet, he was getting 'no dialtone' 'cannot make connection' type messages. I checked everything to the best of my ability, without getting anywhere. It is an internal PCI modem, which was showing it was set to COM3, although the system settings only showed a COm1 as being available.

I've just tried a USB modem, but am having exactly the same problem. It's not the cables etc., as I can dial out using my laptop. Any ideas?

Re: Modem(s) not working SOLVED PLZ IGNORE

Looks like internal PCI modem was bollixed, and had nixed the network connection. Setting up a new network connection using the new modem worked. (new network connection on old modem hadn't worked)
