Modem Setup Host Taking Up To 73% Cpu

Hello,

I was having a really slow go with my laptop this evening so I went into Task Manager to delete my Chrome as I noticed when it has a high number by it, it slows up Chrome. That didn't seem to help as much as usual so I went down the list and saw something called Modem Setup Host that was eating 73% of my CPU even though the only thing I had open was the Task Manager. Can anyone tell me if this can be fixed, should it be this way. You can probably tell from my description that I don't know alot about laptops or computers in general but I would really appreciate any help that anyone can offer. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5570 with 32 gigs of RAM.

Clearly, Tammy, the first thing is to verify you really meant "modern", as DangitallRedux noted, and not "modem".

I will assume "modern" is correct and in that case, I agree that "Makeuseof" link he provided is probably your best bet.

Yes, I just checked again and it's modern. I thought it was but that didn't make any sense to me . I will watch the link and see if it helps.

 

Ok, watched the video and all of the fixes are beyond my capabilities but thanks for the advice.
