I have three machines that must use dial up internet connection. One machine gets 24 kbps, the other two get 14.4 kbps. They all use the same phone line although not at the same time. The one that gets 24 kbps has a PCI K56 data/fax modem with Windows XP2, the other one has a Cheeta 2 V.92 Modem with Windows XP2, and the last has a High-speed V.92 data/fax modem. I understand there will never be any great speed from any of them but why the difference when all are using the same line. What can I do to at least get the two slowest up to 24 kbps. Would changing the modems out be a solution, or using external modems. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance

    Greetings, sparkyrhett.

Swapping the modems between machines might give you an indication, but you'll have to uninstall/reinstall as you go along, so that might be too much of a hassle. I'm just sayin'...

You might try playing around with some of the modem settings - there are a few tips here and here.

There is also a program called TCPOptimizer that used to be good for modem tweaking, but I don't know if it has morphed into a broadband-only tool or not.

And, of course, make sure you've got the latest drivers loaded.
