Modem trouble

I've just installed Vista along with XP and my US Robotics modem isn't recognized in Vista. It works fine in XP and Im using it right now, but Vista doesn't recognize it as a USR modem. I downloaded the Vista driver for the modem, but it says the USR modem cant be found. It shows up in the "Other" category in the Device Manager as a PCI Simple Communications Device. Can anyone help please?

 

Have you tried uninstalling the usb modem, safely remove hardware, and disconnecting it, then shut down and restart to clear the old driver. Then install the new Vista driver, before plugging the usb connection in.
This often solves a driver issue, even with Vista -I had asimilar problem while testing something, and had to reinstal my adsl mode - it worked that way.

 

Its actually a PCI modem, not a USB modem. It works fine in XP. Should I consider getting an external modem? It doesn't even show up in the list of modem drivers in the "Add..." modem wizard in Vista, but it does in XP.

 

Vista is a bit different, but try it that way, driver first, then see if it will find it, as yo finish installing the driver- it did with my webcam, in Vista.

 

Did you try the classic view in Vista control panel, then, in Add hardware wizard, click install hardware that I manually choose from a list, choose modem from the list, click next, and with the driver already in the driver cache, it should find it, if it is compatable with Vista- otherwise it might offer to instal it in compatability mode (choose XP0
