Mom's gonna kill me if I don't get this internet fixed...

Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster.

So yeah, my mom's flipping because her Dell XPS M170 Laptop can't get the internet through either a direct ethernet connection, or wireless. We have a Netgear Wireless N router and it's works perfectly on my Dell XPS 410, with the desktop adapter. I just went out and bought her the USB adapter and it still does not work.

I've changed the security settings multiple times, it's currently running a WPA-PSK (TKIP), and again, works perfectly for every other computer in my house.

A little background. Her laptop has never actually gotten on to the internet through this new netgear router. The last router we used was an ancient Linksys Wireless G router. However, I may or may not have been trying to access certain videos of "questionable" content, on her computer, when I was suddenly hit with a massive smitfraud virus! youch! I've sinced cleaned it up, and the internet was even working when I had the virus. The internet stopped working soon after.

I figured it was just because the router was garbage (I always wanted a new one!) but NOW, it says I'm connected to the new network, and packets are sent and received very fast, and the signal is excellent, 130 mbps (we have multiple compputers like I said), but..................... NO INTERNET. The ethernet connection won't work either! I tried to directly connect to my router, but it doesn't work!

Please, oh please, somebody help me. My mommy's this close ----> | | to killing me. If I fix this for her, she'll realize she NEEDS me and won't send me to the streets! muahahahaha!

Its nothing to do with wireless if the internet hasn't worked through this router. Go down to the malware section and finishing removing the malware as many times home users and even it professionals mess certain parts of malware. Let the malware people fix you up, then lets revisit the issue if it still exists.
