Monitor brightness issue also - Basic Q

Hello,

I just hooked up a new LCD monitor and the picture seems too bright and a bit washed out. I can adjust brightness thru the monitor, but this only helps a bit.

I have the display settings set at Highest 32-bit. I don't seem to have many options to adjust things.

I am clueless when it comes to drivers and whatnot, but was wondering if perhaps I can update mine for a better display or better color. Or for all I know, this is just a hardware prob with the monitor. No clue.

I checked the device manager and the display adapter is a RAGE 128 Pro Ultra GL AGP. I was given the option to update the driver, but it said it was the latest of its type.

Does anyone have advice to improve my display colors/brightness? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

NEVER EVER update drivers via Device Manager.

It hardly ever detects the driver/hardware correctly, and if you install the wrong driver, you are in trouble.

The monitor shouldn't need a driver, it's Plug 'n Pray probably.

You just need to update your video card (display adaptor) driver.

It may be up to date, or it may be Windows Update (Via update in Device Manager) didn't have it as it doesn't supply many.


What's the operating system so someone can link the correct latest driver?

Actually, yes, the monitor is plug 'n play.

The OS is XP. What would you suggest I update?
