Monitor Brightness?

I got this new game, and it said to adjust the brightness on my monitor until a symbol showed up. I set the monitor to maximum brightness, and the symbol did not show up. The screen is too dark on the game. I tried to find a setting under display properties in control panel but there were no options for monitor brightness. I noticed that there is a way to change this on windows 98, but I have windows xp, and I cant find a way to fix this. Please help. Thanks!

 

Try playing the game in compatibilty mode! Right click on the short cut that starts the game, and choose properties - advanced. Use Win98 compatibility mode.
