monitor changes funky colors...

hi, ive got a geforce4 mx 440 64 mb card thats at least 3-4 years old, and lately , there have been a few instances where i'll be playing a game the screen will turn weird colors and sometimes the game crashes. is this simply because my video card is too old? or is it something fixable?

 

This is not uncommon.
When the video goes to H***, do you see horizontal lines of color or rectangular little boxes of color on your screen?

If you do,,,,your video ram chips on your video card are failing and are most likely just dirty. Or, the edge connector on the card may just need a good cleaning.

I just fixed this exact problem on my own vid card (about two years old) by removing the card, washing it with detergent and warm water, scrubbing the heck out of the memory chips with a toothbrush. Then rinse thoroughly with warm water to remove all the soap and then rinse with denatured alcohol to displace any water left on the board. Place on edge for about 24 hrs in a warm and airy place to thoroughly DRY.
Don't put it in the oven! I set mine out on the porch in the warm afternoon sun to dry.

I use the same technique to save bad memory sticks. Nothing around here ever gets thrown away till it gets a good bath. I developed this process for ITT Corp.many years ago and they've saved millions of dollars using my technique.

What the heck....give it a try.
