i was using my brothers laptop earlier, he has a compaq presario cq61 and i have a hp compaq 6735s, his screen seemed to display colours alot richer..even when i put both screens on full brightness..why is this? it just looks alot sharper and more deeper colours..i was very impressed by it. is their anyway for me to get my laptop like that?

    my spec:

    Hi,
The difference that you are noticing is down to your brothers machine having a better graphics card ....

ATI Radeon™ HD 4200 Graphics with 128MB Display Cache Memory AMD RS880M with 128MB GDDR2 (sideport memory)
Up to 958MB total graphics memory

    as yours is ....

    Manufacturer ATI
Radeon HD 3000 Series Radeon HD 3200 40@500MHz
    Core Speed * 500 MHz
    Shader Speed * 500 MHz
Max. Amount of Memory 512 MB

    Hi,
yes your card shows that you have greater amount of ram than stated , but , the ram that is showing is what it drains from the ram you have in your computer, all i was pointing out was that your card is not as good a quality as the one your brother has, there for will not give you the desired effect of what the other card can give, the visual effect could also be down to the type of screen.
You should have a Gpu management software on your machine see if you can get the settings to match those of your brothers, this may give you the desired effect.

i see...so if im re-directing ram to my video/graphics would that not greatly reduce the performance of my laptop? his screen is a little diff to mine and his laptop is slighltly newer than mine..where would i find this Gpu managment software? is this some ATi tuning software? what would you do to improve it. thanks for all your advice by the way

    Hi,
Do you have an icon on your taskbar that looks like a screen, it should be in the show hidden icons, that is your "media accelerater driver" and once opened should give you options to sort out color management and the likes, I honestly could not tell you about how to adjust your settings,it would have to be in front of me!!! but if you look into your brothers and (if you can) try and copy how his are set, that may give you the setting you desire.

I believe this to be your machine.....

    and i found this review....

I will ask someone to step in to see if they can give you a bit more insight i as to get the best performance and display from your machine.

    Hi,
Try playing a playing a game like C.O.D or something, or see how well it displays a dvd, pick one that has high intense colors and graphics and see if you are happy with it.
I have asked a helper on here to step in to see if he can instruct you in tinkering with the settings for your card, but he will not be able to help until tomorrow (sat).

    Hi

Have a look to see if you have the Ati Catalyst Control Centre on both PCs if you do then you maybe able to match up the colour (the Control Centre should be installed if you install the driver from Ati that iain.t posted earlier on), contrast and brightness settings, but to be honest many LCD screens look different from various makers even though they are both from HP/Compaq (same company)

What happens is various grades of LCD are used, some better than others to the batch of LCD being slightly different in screen output (colour, contrast etc), I have two exact DELL LCDs model varinents on my desk in work and the colour from them is different, one is more blue and darker than the other, they batch manufacture date is different on them.

Not the latest version of the CCC but should give you an idea of the settings and options you can use HERE its likely you wont be able to use the exact settings as your brothers laptop but have his next to yours and then start adjusting colour, brightness and contrast to match as close as you can yours, but see a caveat below.

At times also its worth noting that if your laptop is on battery the power saving settinsg will make the screen go dull and lifeless to save power so plug in the PSU and see if the colours/brightness is better, then if nto adjust the screen colour/contrast and brightness with the PSU plugged in.
