I did a reformat and im not windows xp sp2. Whenever I restart, my monitor wont turn on. So I have to shut down the computer completely to get it to turn on. I tried updating the drivers for the monitor, but it did not help. So today I stopped using my sony monitor and started to use a sony LCD monitor instead. That still didnt help.

So whenever I restart my computer, my monitor wont turn on. So I have to shut down the computer completely and turn it back on to get the monitor back up. Its lame. Does anyone know how to fix this? my computer specs are as follows:

    Display:
Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra (256 MB)
3D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra

    Motherboard:
    CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 3200 MHz (16 x 200)

    BIOS Type AMI (06/24/03)
    Communication Port Communications Port (COM1)
    Communication Port Printer Port (LPT1)

    Computer:
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
OS Service Pack Service Pack 2
    DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)

This may be a driver issue, but what driver I dont know. I already updated my graphics drivers, and updating monitor drivers didnt help. Does anyone know where in control panel I can see a window of all the drivers available and the question marks around the hardware that dont have drivers?
Does anyone know that website that searches your computer and tells you what drivers you need?

Can anyone please tell me what to do to get my computer monitor to turn on properly after I restart? Thanks. I never used to have this problem before I did the reformat.

It still should at least run on a default driver, go into setup[bios] and check video settings, possibly set on onboard with no default driver. Still dont understand why shutting down makes it work. ed

Yeah. yellow light for the monitor when the computer restarts, so when I shut down the computer completely with the power button on the computer itself, and boot the computer back up again, the monitor turns on without a problem.

So what should I do in bios and how do I get in there? Where in control panels can I see a list of the computer hardware and see which of them have drivers? What is the url for the website that scans computers and tells the user what drivers need to be downloaded?

Right click my computer, properties, hardware, device manager, click display and go to driver it will tell you what is installed but not what you need. ed
