In reading other posts I have not seen the issue I am having addressed. I have an issue on my monitor where I get ghosting occasionally. I have not been able to find any pattern that causes it, and it just goes away after an hour or two without me doing anything. Restarting does not help nor does turning the monitor off and back on. Any ideas on what causes this or what to do to resolve? I do not have any electronics plugged in next to it that are closer than about a foot. Below is an image for reference if needed:

Have you tried the monitor on a different PC? Everytime I've seen ghosting, it's due to a video card approaching death. If you have a video card, and onboard video also, try removing the card and using the on board video. Any games won't run as well, but you'll probably no longer have the 'ghost in the machine'.

The whole machine is about a month old. I hope that is not the case. I really don't have another pc other than a laptop to try. The laptop is about 6 years old so I can't really get a good benchmark from it. The video card is an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS and in searching I have found no post regarding this. Does anyone know otherwise about this card?

    Check first for two things.

    Incorrectly seated / damaged cables

Devices or cables generating magnetic fields close to the monitor eg a power bar.

First off, let's define 'ghosting'. Normally, this refers to the refresh rate of the monitor not being able to keep up with fast movement on the screen. For example, some things that can cause ghosting are video games or scrolling web pages. So, I'm not sure what the picture is supposed to let us know.

Secondly, I can't see anything really wrong with the picture that you have. I notice that it is 1024x768, is this the resolution that you are running? If so, it is probably not correct for a new laptop and would cause the image to be a little blurry. Perhaps this is what you are describing as ghosting?

If you can change the resolution, you will probably want to turn it up to the maximum allowable setting. This article will help you if you don't know how to do it.

Also, you will want to turn on ClearType since it makes text clearer for LCD displays. This article tells you how to turn it off, you want to turn it on (obviously):

Well, I can't be sure this was the fix... but have been working fine for approx 4 hours of use so far and have had no issues since I have tried this. I unplugged everything and reconnected them ensuring all connections were tight and cords were all undamaged. Could have been a poorly connected cord I suppose, I just didn't even have this cross my mind. I will repost in a few days to verify if I continue to have no issues. Hopefully it was as simple as that.
