My monitor suddenly has a yellow tint to it. Its an old monitor (about 10) years, so its about time it died on me. But before I go out to buy a new monitor I want to make sure the monitor is the problem...I don't want to plug in a new monitor and have it be yellow too. Is it possible the problem is being caused by the computer and not the monitor, and if so how do I check for the problem? I've checked the cable connections and tried bending the cable, but no change.

Another question I have (if I need to buy a new monitor), is whether my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420) will support a new LCD monitor. I would probably get something like an Acer AL 1917WABD 19" W DVI or an X2gen 19" Wide 8ms (both currently online at Costco). Can I get a monitor with DVI connection if I have an analog input?

Dust around the yoke connector at the back of the tube can siphon current or even short out one of the guns. If there's a smoker in the house, this can be compounded by a buildup of tar at the same connector, that seeps in around the pins, blocking the signal. Unplug the monitor - take the back off - stay well clear of the Second Anode.( thick high voltage wire with a suction cup at the tube end). This has residual high voltage that is still trapped in the winding of the flyback coil. - if you've got it, use low pressure compressed air to blow the dirt and debris away. If you have a smoker in the house, use "tuner cleaner" on the connector pins at the back of the tube, staying well clear of the Second Anode. This will give your failing monitor a few more years ( 9 out of 10 times ). :)

I've yet to find an LCD display that doesn't support VGA in one form or other. Many have a discreet 15pin VGA connector, but often you'll find a DVI-VGA converter packaged in the box.:)
