If I have my computer go sleep I can have the Monitor set to turn off as well.

Now I know when the system goes sleep it will just turn the video going to the monitor off it is not turning the monitor off.

So if my Monitor takes say 100 Watts am I right that when the system turns off and the monitor goes blank it will still be taking the same amout of power because I did not turn it off?

Basically your asking is if you put your monitor on sleep mode or turn it off will it use less power id say yes but in any case if you want too just have the computer turn off monitor completely.

All you really have too do is adjust the monitor be for the sleep mode so that the monitor will shut off first and then the sleep mode will kick in.

This is what I ment I have system go to sleep so everything goes off.

So my monitor goes Black because there is not video being sent to it I get it.

But because I did not hit the power bottun on the monitor and turn off the power going to it am I right the monitor is still drawing power from the Outlet?

If so why does the power managment have a turn off for monitor if it will still use electric?

    What am I missing?

If the monitor is entering standby, the "on" light should change from green to yellow when the screen goes dark.

During standby, the backlight turns off. This typically cuts the amount of wattage used by about 90%.

During standby (or even if turned off but still plugged in), the monitor will still draw a few watts of current to power the part that signals when the PC is sending a signal to it to turn the display back on. On most flatscreen monitors, this "vampire current" draw is usually under 5 watts.

Although I've made a lot of energy efficient improvements in my house, I'm not sweating the five watts. Even at my high electric rates, it only equals about $2.50 per month at most - a small price for not having to crawl under the desk and unplug it and plug it back in a few times per day.

Is your monitor a CRT or LCD/LED? CRTs use much more wattage than LCDs. Both CRTs and LCDs use much less energy in sleep mode than when awake.

What, no switch on your monitor? What make and model is it?

Even if a monitor's switch is turned off, it will draw a small amount of electricity. The amount may be slightly less than "standby" mode; however it still draws a bit:

Well I never understood how this one part works?

Say I have everything stay on and not go to sleep but I have the monitor set to turn off after 30 Min.

What I meen by this is in my Win7. power managment settings.

Now my computer is not giving electric to the monitor just the Video Image.

So when the monitor goes Black it is just being cut off from the video image.

But it is still turned on because I did not hit the off switch on the monitor?

    Am I right?

Turn off monitor in power settings is only relevant for laptops. It will actually tun the monitor off because it is powered through the same power connector. That option will make no differenc to a desktop. The monitor will detect that your GPU has stopped providing a signal and simply go straight into standby.

OK I thinbk I get what you told me?

If I set Monitor Turn Off to Never but my system goes to sleep it will turn the monitor off anyway.

Because even though the monitor is still pluged into the Outlet and is still turned on by the monitors power switch the computer will stop giving it the video image.

    Do I understand you?

So my monitor will still be drawing electric power from the Outlet but because it is not doing anything because the video image is cut off the monitor will be using very little power right?
