I have a Samsung monitor. When it is on and running, the button has a steady blue light.

Currently, when I turn my computer on, the light on the monitor button goes on and off every two seconds or so, and the monitor doesn't show anything.

Sometimes, after a while, (anywhere from ten minutes to three hours) the button will display the steady colour. Then, if the monitor is turned off and on again, it will work.

Sometimes, it will work after about half an hour if the computer is turned off and on again. This has to be done using the on/off button, as I can't shut it down without the monitor.

I could just go buy another monitor, and I will, unless one of you kind souls tells me the problem is elsewhere in the PC.

    Thanks in advance...

Check the obvious first and make sure all cable connections are securely fastened.

You need to determine if the problem is with the monitor, or the card/computer not communicating with it. The best and easiest way to do that is to swap monitors with another computer. If the problem follows the monitor, you have a bad monitor. If the problem stays with the computer, you have something wrong with your computer, or it's graphics solution.

I managed to borrow a monitor and confirm that it was my original monitor that was the problem. Believe it or not, I found a page that described my problem completely, and showed me how to fix it by changing some capacitors on a board in the monitor. Maybe I'll give it a shot after I'm up and running with a new one.

    Thanks for the reply.

What was the clue leading to know the capacitor was bad? Which one?

I've no idea. I replaced the monitor.

I'm considering sending off for the kit and putting my less than considerable soldering talents to the test, but that won't be for a while yet.

The clue is the symptoms described in the opening post. However, a clue is just that, a clue and does not conclusively point to the problem. Other faults can give the same symptoms, but bad caps is a common cause. As to which one, unless there is physical and visible damage, you cannot tell without using a capacitor tester - so the kits replace all.
