    Hi everyone,

I've just bought a custom built PC to replace my old one that died of old age. I had a new keyboard and mouse, but kept the old monitor. However, once I connected everything up I powered up the new PC, a 'No Signal' message appeared on the monitor and it went into standby mode. I could hear the Windows loading tune in the background but no picture.

    Can anyone help me please?:cry

The first thing I would check is that you haven't managed to bend any pins when plugging in the monitor to the video port on the PC. If you have you can gently straighten them with tweezers.

There are no bent pins. I hooked up the monitor to my laptop and it worked perfectly. Anything else I could try?

I've also tried removing the watch battery for about 10 minutes and then tried rebooting but I still get the 'No Signal' message.:cry

Can you boot in safemode? It is possible the display is currently set at a resolution your monitor can't display. If you can get into safemode, you can change the video settings to a lower resolution.

Is it F8 I have to keep pressing? I'm not too sure.

    Yes, F8 key.

I've just tried that and the monitor remains in standby mode- blank screen.

Do you have a spare monitor you can try hooking up to? It is possible that your video card is not working. Is it on-board video or a separate video card? If it is separate, you can try reseating the video card.

I've already tried hooking the monitor upto my laptop and it works fine. The video card is seperate and I have already removed it and reseated it. All the connections seem fine although it does seem a little loose but I don't know enough about computers to know if this is the cause of it!

What kind of video card is it? Some of them have an extra power connection. Check to make sure that it is plugged in if that is the case.

Got it sorted! All up and running now. I think there must have been a loose connection somewhere - maybe got loose during transit.
Thank you for your help - much appreciated!
