Monitor problem help!!

Ok so tonight I am playing UO and all of the sudden I smell is like burning plastic smell and it turns out it was my monitor and it blew out. So I go get my brothers monitor to hook up to my computer and everything looks like its going to be ok, the windows xp screen loads up just fine and then the screen goes blank and say NO SIGNAL... So I hook the monitor up to my boyfriends laptop and it works fine! So my question is whats wrong with my computer and why can't I get it to work? I tried running in safe mode and it just wouldn't go SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME!!! Oh my computer is an HP and the monitor is an old (about 6 years old) Optiquest Q71. Hope that helps..

 

Everything was fine till ya smell burning in the monitor?
Brother's monitor monitor dont work?
This computer is it onboard video or AGP/PCI card.
If it is onboard something may have shorted out on the mobo, you may be able to try installing AGP if you have slot or a PCI video card and disable onboard.
Or if not onboard video replace the video card.
You can buy Cheap basic video card to see?

 

Your refresh / screen res is too high for your brothers monitor.
Try F8 when booting Windows then select boot in VGA modeor safe mode. This will force Windows to 800x600 16bit colour @ 60hz.

If Windows loads and you manage to get in you will need to mess with the resolution settings to find out what the max is that your brothers monitor will support.
