    Hi there,

Got a call yesterday from my parents saying that there PC monitor has stopped working. The PC powers up and stays on but the monitor stays in its standby state. They have tried another monitor with the PC but no luck with that. I go home tomorrow but was looking to get some advice now. Is there any usual things that cause things like this?

    Thanks alot

If you've tried a new monitor its not a monitor problem,it looks like a video card problem but it could also be a hard hard drive problem or a blown add in card.

First try a cmos reset, completely disconnect the comp from the mains then press the power on to drain any residual current, then look for a small watch type battery similar to a coin and remove for 20 secs then replace.

Now try and fire it up,if it doesn't work remove the hard drive, all add in cards apart from the vid card, use one stick of memory and try and fire it up if this doesn't work beg, borrow or steal a video card from someone and then try to fire it up with a different video card.
