    i have a Proview flatscreen monitor (CY465, model no 468) which started flickering just before xmas and then within a day or so after just went kaput. the power is still getting to the screen as you can just about see a box in the top left corner of the black screen. the power light comes on green and then after a few seconds turns itself off and flashes.

    the power cable runs through an adaptor;
    Linearty1 electronics co ltd- model LAD6019AB4,
    input 100-240VAC 1.5A 50-60Hz
    output 12VDC 3A.

    the data cable for this is a double ended 15 pin socket (all pins in place).

    since this happened, i tried an old gateway ev700 monitor acquired from my old work (legally may i add!) which worked for around 3 days and now i can't get anything on it all. the power cable i have used is the one from the proview, but without the adaptor. when i take the power plug out of the back of this monitor and put it back in again, i sometimes hear what might be a slight spark noise, but no response on the monitor itself- nothing on screen nor lights near the buttons. the data cable for this is a single ended 15 pin socket built into the monitor (one pin missing in middle row).

    i have also tried a very old goldstar monitor (prob 15-20yr old) which had power at the time, but the screen was shaking and seemed to be scrolling very quickly to the extent that you couldn't clearly see any specific icons on the screen. again, this was with the same proview power lead and no adaptor.

    the desktop is an e-machines 2210, 2.60GHz processor, 40GB hard drive, 3D AGP Intel Extreme Graphics (according to the sticker on the front- the PC is second hand)

    if i need to try to get at video cards, etc, to check connections/ clean up, please explain what i'm looking for, as i am a total noob :eek:.
    i'm in the UK by the way if that affects power requirements.
    thanks in anticipation :)

    This isn't particularly helpful but I'd take it to a repair center. They could try it with another cable (I'd assume at no cost) and if that didn't fix it get them to quote on repairing it.

    I wouldn't suggest opening the monitor as there aren't any serviceable parts in there without the right equipment.

    The flickering could have been caused my magnets being too close (speakers) but shouldn't stop it woring all together.

    Good luck.
