Monitor resolutions.

Hi all.
I have a 19" crt Hansol monitor.
I want a 19" tft flat panel.
I don't 100% understand what i am looking for.
I am looking at a Belinea with a resolution of 1440x900, i believe that tft's are fixed at one res only?
Thing is, most widescreen tft's are this res but my graphics card isn't showing that i have this option
The nearest i have is 1360x768 then it jumps to 1600x900.
Does this mean that the tft display would look muck, do i need a new card, do i need to go for a non widescreen monitor, will new graphics drivers do it????? etc etc etc etc. confused
Any help much appreciated.

 

Your current monitor (CRT) is not widescreen, hence the videocard does not show the resolutions that the monitor is not able to support normally with its given aspect ratio.

If you get a widescreen 19" LCD and install the drivers for it (even that may not be reqd), the videocard should be able to show 1440x900, or you can easily enable it as a custom resolution.

If your videocard itself cannot support 1440x900, then you are out of luck, but from what you say, if it does 1600x1200, then 1440x900 should not be a problem. All cards these days should support these resolutions, since they are quite common.

EDIT: can't you check up the specs on the video card? There should be a list of supported resolutions, color depths and refresh rates.

I didn't realise it was showing me the monitors capabilities, i thought it was what the card could do. rolleyes
