While I was looking into monitors , I saw a fair amount of statistics I did'nt understand. So I thought I would look in this direction in order to attain help.

Below is a list of the monitor stats I did'nt understand , along with the stats of the monitor I have chosen (in dark red).

    • Resolution ( fairly obvious ) 1680x1050
    • Contrast ratio 3000:1
    • Response time 2 ms
    • Brightness 300cd/m2
    • DVi

I decided to make another thread about this topic , because in the other topic this was only a minor subject , and not luring all the monitor techies out there.

My main question is thus - how will this monitor fare in laymans terms?

and what does each stat mean , in laymans terms - I would really like to increase my knowledge on the subject.

    Thanks in advance

I think this article will answer some of your questions: Understanding LCD Monitors

This 2ms response time is fast. Are you a gamer? Gamers tend to prefer monitors with fast response times. For general use, a slower response time, say, 5ms to 8ms, should be fine.

That Contrast ratio of 3000:1 is extremely high. I gather this monitor is one at the high end of the price range.

Can you say more about how you intend to use this monitor? For general use, I'm sure you could spend less and have a very satisfactory monitor.

Its 22" Samsung design which to me is aesthetically pleasing.

And I will be using it for mostly work ( web design on the side , college work ) , gaming ( high end games with my new computer ), watching DVD's , general internet surfing and more , which I actually cant be bothered to think about now.

    But yeah , it is one from the higher end , I also want a monitor that will last me , so I decided on one of the higher end ones , Its pretty much a toss-up beetween 2 monitors ;

    Monitor A
    Monitor B

The chances are , it will be monitor A , purely based on the fact its cheaper , and both aesthetics are nice.

The main difference is that it is'nt wall mountable , which makes zero difference to me=]

    Whats your opinion?

Yeah, I think I'd go with monitor A unless you have a strong preference for the gloss black finish on the other one.
