monitor trouble

Hi all,

I have an HP laptop and the lcd screen is busted so I removed it and connected an Optiquest external monitor. The problem is that I can't access the BIOS or Safe Mode. It boots in Windows XP normal mode fine, but there is no display until I see the HP splash screen. I need to reinstall Windows, but can't due to this problem.

Is there a setting for both internal and external screens at once?

 

which setting would you be referring to? in the video card display properties? the bios? or something else i'm not aware of?

You nornally toggle through the options with one of the function keys, plus an fn key.

Usual options are internal only, external only, some laptops can also drive both at once. Some modern laptops can't drive CRT screens.

 

i have it set thru the function key and i've also set it as the primary monitor thru intel's display properties. i don't believe it can drive both at once. also, its not a crt, its an lcd and it does work fine in windows normal mode. i'm typing this post on it now.

 

Sounds like you'll have to fix the screen then.
