monitoring

One of my friends was talking about how there boss doesnt want them to use the internet when at work. So he connected his computer at home and the office ones so he can see what they doing from the conveince of his house. just being curious and wondering how that works?

 

Could be a number of ways. Sounds like if he can see everyones screen, then he is using some sort of remote screen monitoring program, which is installed on all the PCs on the network. There will be some kind of a server computer, which he can get to over the internet. That server will send him pictures of everyones screens every so often, when each PC sends a recent screenshot.

However, its a lot simpler than this to just stop people using the net. You need a firewall that will not allow outgoing connections through port 80. And there you have it. You can port block any number of net aplications, so if he wanted them to only use email, he could block all ports except for 23 (SMTP) and 110 (POP3).

Screen monitoring is a pain because he would have to sit there all day and watch the screens.... *snore*

 

yea i know it would be easier to firewall lol. hes not the brightest guy, but happened was they( his employees) used to clear history and delete cookies and everything was fine, till someone forgot. so it isnt like actually screen monitoring but more a extra log book. was just wondering how much trouble he went through to do that when he could of had something much simplier... was just curious. thanks though.

 

Haha, a packet log? Thats even worse!! He would have to trapse through pages and pages of packets sent/recived to see whether someones been on the net! Either that or get an analyser to do it.

I'm sure there is a simpler way to do whatever it is he did. But it would be more expensive for him by the sounds of it.
