I'm trying to find a good temperature monitor / overclock util that works in Vista for an 8800 GTX. Something similar to ATI Tray Tools would be sick. Anyone have any suggestions? I can't seem to find anything that works, and my GPU feels like it's gonna melt my sound card, it's so hot.. I need to turn up the fan speed at least.. Thanks in advance! Cheers.

One of the members here adryalyne, had many issues running ntune on vista, i didn't but it didn't show me anything. So be for warned it may cause a bsod, or freeze up and make you reboot. Just a heads up.

It installed ok, but the overclocking utils seems to not work at all in Vista.. and also the fan speed controls.. the 8800 is idling at around 72c, which to me is unacceptable.. folks say it's normal temps, but I don't agree.. any suggestions for decent after-market coolers? (non-liquid) I hate running my $500 GPU at such high temps, it makes me nervous.. lol..

There are a couple you can try. As mentioned, nTune totally hosed until I removed it. I tried different drivers and versions, all had the same effect.

Rivatuner will do what you need, although its not user friendly. It allows you to jack the fan speed up to 100%, which the fan will never do on its own, with the heat sensor.
I junked it due to it causing my screen to randomly flash and refresh.

    Expertool is another.

I find Expertool is more stable than Rivatuner, but, depending on driver version(which effects both apps), the most you can get from your fans is 70% speed, which is the most the heat sensor allows as well. I use this and love it. It dropped my 7800GTX temps 15 degrees.

Hope this helps. Both have overclocking facilities as well. Rivatuner goes further in depth.

I used Everest Ultimate to see what speed my fans were running at while testing this.

8800s do have an high average idle temp of between 65~75, its very normal, and yes I do have an 8800.

but also check all your other parts of system so your getting max airflow from the case fans across the GFX card, tidy up all loose cables, too much clutter inside the case adds heat pockets due to dead air zones.

The Gainwood temp monitor that Adryn mentions works well in Vista too, but I have to ask if your not wanting to kill a $500 GFX card then why are you after possibly overclocking it, as that is surefire way to kill a card if worried about temps? the fan controls on the Gainwood monitor, set to as mentioned cool my 8800 by 5-10c depending on room temp.

Thank you so much for all your input. I'm going to give ExperTool a try I think. As for overclocking, I'm not really planning on that right away. Was more concerned w/ being able to set fan speeds manually. I think the 8800 GTX is plenty freaking fast out of the box. It chews up whatever I throw it's way. Just wanted something to be able to see temps. As for wires and concerns of airflow, I just built this system about 4 days ago, and it's as tidy as any case I've ever built. ;) 2x 120mm case fans and a giant Zalman CPU cooler that moves a ton of air as well.

On a side note, I'm also trying to find something similar to Motherboard Monitor that works in Vista. MM doesn't seem to like it very much.. I've tried SpeedFan as well, but it won't recognize my motherboard correctly.. (brand new MB.. Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R. Killer board, except it's *really* new w/ the P35 chipset and DDR3 support) Does Everest work well for new hardware? I really want to overclock this e6600 a bit, but need to see real-time temps.. again, thanks in advance for any replies / advice.

New versions of Everest also come with Sidebar support so you can have your temps listed in the sidebar.
