Moon photograph (weirdness in image)

So, on Tuesday night, the moon was crazy amazing. Really orange and so low in the sky. I decided to take some shots.

The first attachment is just a 'I really thought this turned out good shot'.:) For anyone interested:
    ISO 200
    f8
    1/350

As you can see, there's no weirdness in that. It is cropped, but there wasn't anything in the rest of the image either.

The next two show what looks like a green moon to the left of the actual moon. They are completely untouched. I was just trying to get some cool shots with the clouds in there, so the moon is blown out.

Does anyone know what would cause that green 'moon'? I've taken hundreds of moon shots and have never had that happen before.

Were you using a UV filter or Lens guard. It looks to be a ghosting effect, but may be you discovered another moon. :p

    Cheers..

I do have a UV filter on my lens. I've never had ghosting before though. Usually, I'm not purposely blowing the moon out though to get a different shot.

It's kind of cool looking and does look like its some odd new planet out there. :-D Too bad it's most likely from a mistake on my part. :p

Definitely reflection: Att #3 shows the ghost moon as being reversed.

Somewhat reminiscent of Sun dogs (parhelion) though, they're a neat phenomenon :)

Just disable the MIB setting and it should go away:confused

Yeah, I see what you're talking about with the cloud going through the ghosting. That's pretty wild.

Very cool on the sun dog. I've never seen that before.

I got a cool shot of an upside down rainbow when I was in New York City a couple of years back. Now I have to go find it. LOL Someone had informed me that it's actually what's called a Circumzenithal Arc.

Sun dogs are not so uncommon but they're pretty impressive sometimes. Now that I'm scanning the memory banks for atmospheric oddities, I recall seeing Moon dogs (much better when seen/photographed with fine clouds in the way than the photo used to illustrate it there) too - on one occasion I commented to my companion that (whatever it was) it looked similar to the parhelion.

That Circumzenithal_arc photo is something else, well done for getting that! It's something that I really should have seen by now, given the amount of time I've spent "hosepiping" the sky with eyes and optics looking for raptors (note to self: must get out more).

I've seen moon dogs, but have never photographed them. The sky really is awesome if you take the time to look. I'd love to have a longer lens so I can get better shots, but thinking I'll be using my 300mm for a while.

Thanks. My composition and the quality leaves a bit to be desired, but I was there with my family and they were all about 50 yards ahead of me and were not waiting. They get a little impatient with my picture taking. :-DI've learned that if I actually want to take good shots, I need to go out on my own.

Cool pictures, the upside-down rainbow is beyond cool. As for the ghost moon I wouldn't even try to guess. Post the picture on ZetaTalk, claim it's of Nibiru and watch them go crazy.

So they travelled thousands of light years to get here and secretly recruited her in the woods then later impregnated her with a hybrid baby which is all amazing but even with all that medical scientific and medical technology they can't help fix her health problems or even give her some advice even though she talks to them every day, apparently the aliens are also broke...:-D

I've seen shots of Aurora's. They are pretty awesome. I like that vid.

hmmm...I have so many moon shots and to be completely honest, I had no idea that that's what that was when you saw the crescent moon and then could see the rest of the moon in shadow.

I will have to try that as the crescent moon is my favorite phase. I would think it would have to be tricky to get and I think the moon would have to be over exposed to see the darker side.

I may try it though. I could try for two different exposures. Could make for an interesting shot.

    Thanks all for the compliments.

I thought that green 'moon' was one of the weirdest things.
