More IE 8 problems - very slow

Ever since I installed IE 8 my web visits have slowed. I can often get the first page to load OK but when I link from there or start another URL it takes forever to load - at least I would think that but I close it after while. Sometimes I can refresh the page and it will open.

I uninstalled IE 8 and re-installed IE 7 but it is also slow. I installed Firefox with no improvement.

I can get my email with Outlook Express with no problems but if I do that while waiting for web pages to open it also is slow to work.

I have scanned for viruses, etc and it appears as if my machine is clear.

I'd love some great wisdom on this - I will be grateful.

 

No, and I meant to include that since I noticed that they seemed to be problematic from some other messages.

Oh, I also meant to add that I have a laptop and at home I use dial up and at work a T-1 line. At home it is slower but I expect that.

This applies to both IE7 and IE8. When I install IE8, I always decline almost all add-ons and definitely all "accelerators, then it runs fine. Seens like M$ got a little to fancy with 8 and I have had people who couldn't even open their home page.

 

Thanks for your suggestions. I am not using any add-ons yet I'm still having these problems.

Any other suggestions?
